With your help, we're trying to raise
funds to expand a Basic school located in Polly Ground, St. Catherines in Jamaica! During
a trip back to Jamaica, my brother, Ken, took the time to visit the Basic school he attended 36 years ago. The small one-room
school was full, now housing over 50 students! It was extremely hot (even for Jamaica) and the noise levels were incredible!
There were 6 kids sharing the same desk, simply because there was no more space to put another one. It was heartbreaking...
He bought some fans to help with the heat, but we
need your help for the next step. The school is 1300 sq, ft. and our goal through this fundraiser is to build an additional
800 sq. ft so that these children will have a better learning environment.
Thank you,
THANK you, THANK YOU!
Thank you for such an amazing show of support for this cause! Your enthusaism
keeps us energized. Over 350 people came out in support of the fundraising event below, and even more have committed to donating
to the cause! Due to your generosity, we're on schedule to start the excavation project by April 30th!!
See below for more details and a special note from my brother Ken:
From: Ken Cooper:
What a success!Thank you for understanding the need and supporting
this cause. The fantastic attendance
surprised the ownership at the restaurant!!!! To the friends that braved the snow and cold to attend the event…a very extra special thank
you.
Our Event more than doubled our forecasted amount. What went well? From the Best Dj, to the PowerPoint presentation,
the hostess, the silent auction, the decoration, the coat check, the food, the group participation, the promotion, the two
charity support groups, the family and friends support group. What more could I ask for?
For this event we netted over $4000.00 and to date through
the Polly Ground fund rising project we have $11,000.00.All
funds will be controlled by our friends at Compassionate Outreach Foundation Inc. who will manage the distribution process. This total includes contributions that have been promised but have yet to be collected. This total will only go higher because unfortunately some friends emailed and called to let me they
were unable to attend. They had reserved tickets and still wish to contribute.
With the money we currently have we will start the excavation process by April 30!We are well within reach of our goal of $16,000.00 Canadian which is approximately 1 million
dollars Jamaican.I promise to keep you all posted on this project with pictures as I
hope to be a hands on project manager.
Next step!We
will take this cause on the road to New York City to friends and family who have expressed that they wish to be a part of
this effort in early June.We will be doing an appreciation dinner dance to thank you
for your contribution in September so I will be in touch. Please share this with friends
that brought friends to the event.
Thanks again for your generous support!
Kindest regards, Ken
